Adnan launched Zawya Islamic in 2013, designed Islamic finance Apps on EIKON – the flagship product of Thomson Reuters, and currently manages the Islamic economy proposition that comprises Salaam Gateway, the first online global reference for all data and insights required by Islamic economy and Halal industry professionals, and My Salaam, a B2C mobile app which covers the Muslim lifestyle.

Adnan holds a Masters in Financial Economics from the American University of Beirut and is a Certified Product Manager. He is a renowned blogger and speaker at Islamic finance & economy conferences around the globe.


Director, Trade and Environment Division, World Trade Organization

Aik Hoe LIM is currently Director of the Trade and Environment Division at the World Trade Organization and is in charge of its work on environment-related matters, as well as on the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade and its Committee.

He joined the organization in 1999 and has since has held many different positions in the organization. He has been Counsellor in the Cabinet of two WTO Director-Generals (2001-2005), Adviser to the Director General’s Consultative Group on “The Future of the WTO”, Secretary to WTO committees, working groups and negotiating bodies in the area of services trade, as well as focal point for WTO-UN and parliamentary relations.

Before joining the WTO, he was a Senior Economic Affairs Officer at the G-15, Urban Habitat (Employment) Specialist at the International Labour Organization and has worked as a Chartered Surveyor in the field of urban environmental regeneration.

He is currently a member of the Bertelsmann Foundation’s Board of High-Level Board of Experts on the Future of Global Trade Governance. He has published widely on services trade, domestic regulation and the environment, including the book “WTO Domestic Regulation and Services Trade: Putting principles into practice” released by Cambridge University Press in 2014.

Eng. Mohammed Saleh Badri is an Electrical Engineer having 30 years’ experience in the field of Standardization and Infrastructure of Quality. He is currently holding the position of Secretary General for International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF) that is an international non government and non for profit organization that aims to assure full compliance of Halal requirement that consists of Safety, Quality, and Islamic Sharee’a. practices and enhance Halal trade globally by unifying Halal conformity practices

He is also serving as an Advisor to the Board of Directors for Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA)  in UAE – the UAE’s sole National Standards Body that is responsible for formulation of policies, strategies, and management of UAE standards that contribute to protection of consumer safety & rights, environment protection, and enhancing the trade facilitation by issuing related standards and monitor its implementation on UAE level through development of schemes that are recognizable by international organizations and in line with the policies of WTO for TBT.

He has served 7 years as Director General of the ESMA and holder of different technical & management positions for 18 years in Government of Dubai authority responsible for establishing and managing different consumer goods Laboratories complying with international standards ISO/IEC 17025 (Electrical Appliance, Toys, Cosmetic, Precious Metals, Gemstones). He has established nationally recognized certification schemes in field of Safety (electric Appliances), Halal, Food safety, and Environment friendly scheme (Organic, Equipment Energy Efficiency, Degradable Plastic materials, etc).  He also was responsible for establishing and managing National Inspection Body, Standard Issuing Body, and Accreditation Body fully complying to relative ISO/IEC standards

He served as the president of UAE’s IEC National Committee (international Electrotechnical Commission organization who develop international Electro technical standards and run worldwide Electrical Equipment Certification Scheme – CB Scheme). He has formulized and implemented IECEE CB Scheme in UAE as an Issuing & Recognizing Body.

He has also served as the representative of UAE in the ISO Council for the term of 2009-2010 and term of 2013-2014. He represented UAE in GCC standardization authorities (GSO) and Arab Industrial Development for Mining Organization (AIDMO) along with Organization of Islamic Countries (SMIIC).

He has served as a member of Higher Committee for Consumer Protection in UAE along with council member of Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.

He has participated as speaker in many relative international/regional/national seminars & workshops, and conducted many awareness and training programs in the field of standardization and infrastructure of Quality

He has a wide experience in leadership, management, and technical and has successfully completed the UAE Leadership program for CEO’s organized by Prime Minister office of UAE, and He is recipient of several awards under the Dubai Government Excellence Award both as a Manager, Technical Person, and as an Employee when serving in Government of Dubai.

Mr. Unger has been involved with accreditation since 1978.  He served President since 1996, Vice President of A2LA since 1986 and Associate Manager of Laboratory Accreditation at the National Institute of Standards and Technology) since 1978.

Mr. Unger served as Chair of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) for 2010-2016.  He is an author of many papers on accreditation, active participant in the establishment of ISO/IEC standards for accreditation and author of many papers and a book on Achieving Accreditation for Your Laboratory, 1990.

Mr. Unger has a BS degree in systems engineering from Princeton University and a Master’s in environmental management from George Washington University.

Mark Overland joined Cargill in 1994 managing dietary requirements, harmonizing competing standards and ensuring compliance.  In 2006 Mr. Overland moved to Corporate Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory where he added responsible for strategy, policy, implementation and certification of food safety management systems and dietary standards for approximately 1200 Cargill plants and contract manufacturers in 67 countries.

Mr. Overland serves as a member of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board Accreditation Council which grants, suspends, and withdraws accreditation of certification bodies and prepares program procedures. Mr. Overland also serves in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) as Chair of the Auditor Competency Sub Committee, and on the Board of Stakeholders of the GFSI recognized scheme FSSC22000.

Mr Overland serves in ISO as a member of ISOTC34/SC17 Management Systems for Food Safety, and a member of ISO/CASCO Joint Working Group 36 which sets requirements, competences, and processes for auditing food safety management systems.

Mr. Overland also serves as a member of the American Halal Standard Consensus Group registered with ANSI and is actively engaged in industry, government, and NGO global efforts to drive transparency in food safety, harmonization of standards and affect positive public health outcomes.

Brahim Houla is the accreditation services manager in GCC Accreditation Center since 2010, Industrial Engineer, Following a DEA in production systems management.

He is specialized in Quality and accreditation since 2001, he was responsible of assuring the setting up and the application of the accreditation procedures and policies as Head of Laboratory Accreditation department in the Tunisian Accreditation Council (TUNAC) who achieved EA and ILAC MLA recognition. Also he was the head of accreditation section in GSO from 2010 to 2016.

Lead assessor and trainer in the field of accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories, certification bodies and Inspection bodies.
